Watch Dog Dads at Marmaduke
By Anna Oliver
Marmaduke Elementary is continuing a program for the second year called Watch Dogs Dads. Any father figure—dad, grandpa, step-dad, etc.—can volunteer to be a watch dog. The fathers come up to the school and walk the hallways to keep the students safe and make sure all the doors are locked so that no harm will come to the children. This program is an all year event.
“We want to get dads involved in the school. Usually mostly the moms are the ones involved,” Audra King, the elementary principal, stated. Dads can do this as many times as they want in the year. They will be mostly around the elementary portion of the school. Shane Martin gave a presentation about the event Tuesday, October 6.
David Specking is a Watch Dog dad. Specking’s daughter, Carissa is in the fourth grade. Specking was excited and proud to be a watch dog at the school. “Most people are nice and courteous. Not much goes on. I only had to get onto a couple of students,” said Specking. David plans to be back to the school to patrol the halls some more this year.
