Marmaduke Science Class Recycles
By Whitney Morris
Marmaduke’s fifth grade science class is getting involved
with recycling! “I wanted them to
realize how much paper we throw away,” science teacher Marianne Reeves said.
Students began by
putting boxes in each classroom and in teacher’s workrooms. The paper is collected and taken to Mrs.
Marianna’s house, then taken to the Paragould Recycle bin.
Luke Richey is very involved in this process. “I think it’s
fun to recycle and it’s good for the environment,” he said. He enjoys collecting the paper from the
classrooms.
“I started collecting paper, plastic and cans three or four
years ago,” said Michael Damron. Through
this project, students are learning to be dependable as they work to collect
the paper without interrupting classes.
They are also learning that there is so much they can do to help the
environment.
Jacob Best is a veteran recycler. “I’ve been recycling cans for about seven
years,” he said.
Students are learning the benefits of recycling. “We help the environment and make sure
animals have somewhere to live,” DJ Mitchell stated. “We help the oxygen and keep our trees and
plants healthy,” said Kyle Russom. “We
help the world,” Tyler Easley added.
These eager fifth graders are determined to do their part in
making our world a better place for everyone, even the animals.
