Greyhounds
Make It to Regionals
By Courtney Thompson
After much hard work and practice, the Marmaduke Senior high
boys’ basketball team made it to Regionals.
“Not many people expected us to be as good as we are,” said
Colton Hale, “We’ve beat some teams that haven’t lost much, and we won over 20
games. I’m pretty proud of what we’ve done this year.”
The team played Riverside with a 53-44 win and then went
into overtime with Turrell, and came out ahead with 76-74.
Friday, February 19, the
boys lost the District finals to EPC.
They play Regionals in the second seed and with one more win, they go to
State.
“We should do well in Regionals; we have a lot of good
seniors that understand what we have to do now, and I think they’ll make sure
we play hard and take this seriously,” said Morgan Hawley. “Maybe we could end
up in Regional finals, too.”
Not only did our boy basketball team make it to Regionals,
our Lady Greyhounds did as well. The girls won the district finals with a 56-51
win against EPC, putting them in the fourth seed in Regionals.
“A lot of people didn’t think we could win districts but, we
did. That put us playing the fourth at Regionals, so we have a big shot. We
started off slow but, that didn’t give us a reason to put our heads down,” said
Michelle Greaney. “We worked hard every practice and continued to get better.
Coach Hoffman has a great program here and I feel honored to be a part of it.”
Even though the girls lost their game to Cotter and the guys
lost their game to Midland, the student body is very proud of the Greyhound
teams.
