The first place winners from Marmaduke are Even Pillow, grade 5, and Allison Hampton, grade 7. Evan won on the words “handsome” and “alligator” while Allison won on the word “discipline”.
“I’m nervous but I think it’s going to be fun to be a part of it,” Allison Hampton said. First prize winners won a $50 check each.
Second place winners are Adrianna Wyatt, grade 6, and Hannah Muse, grade 7. Adrianna won on the word “dejected” and the word Hannah won on the word “bonanza”. Second place students received $25. Third place winners received $15. They are Isaac Bridges, grade 5, and Sierra Vangilder, grade 8. They will be the alternates in the spelling bee in case another competitor cannot make it.
All students are in a mix of happy and nervous as they warm up to the idea of being in the county bee. “I’m nervous because I have stage fright,” Evan stated. They are all confident in themselves that they will do a great job. “I think I’ll do well because my sister is in the same spelling bee. She goes to Greene County Tech,” Adrianna said. These students will do a great job representing Marmaduke at the spelling bee.
