ENGAGE: Go and Pray
By Courtney Thompson
Every year, schools all across America gather at their flagpoles to pray for their friends, family, school, community, the world- anything that comes to their minds. This gathering is called See You at the Pole and is a student-led event held on the fourth Wednesday of September.
“It’s all about prayer. It’s about kids coming together and laying aside all of the labels and groups for one day, to simply engage with God in pray and connect with fellow Christians in unity around the flag pole,” said Dylan Vangilder.
This year the speaker at Marmaduke was Dylan Vangilder. Megan Nolen lead us all in prayer, and Hope Richey sang “Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone).” Our turnout was great with 132 students!
Some of our students also attended Saw You at the Pole at the new Community Center in Paragould later that night. Doug Compton was the speaker and he touched so many hearts. Hope Richey said, “It made me feel so much closer to God than most days.” People were being brought closer to God, learning about God, and some even were willing to be “the Daniels of this generation,” said Doug. This year’s See You at the Pole and Saw You at the Pole has made such an impact on so many people. So, engage yourself, go and pray!
